Galaxy Note Screen Flickering

My Samsung Galaxy Note screen starts to flicker whenever it reach 50% or less and then the battery die off. The following is the scenario when it start to happen

Samsung Galaxy Note Screen Flickering

  • The screen starts to flicker
  • Shortly later, the network is lost
  • The phone shuts down

You can restart the phone and u get 1% to 5% of battery. After this you have to start charging, you will see it go to 40% pretty fast and then charge normally

Root Cause
You will see the battery is bulge or swelling in the middle. If u put the battery on a table and u can spin it very fast, then u know the middle has swell up. The battery is no longer flat.

Replacement
You need to purchase a replacement battery to resolve your problem. Samsung only carries a 6 month warranty on the battery.

Samsung Galaxy Note ICS 4.0.4 update #02

Software UpdateAfter 1 months of using the ICS 4.0.4 update, Samsung roll out another patch for the 4.0.4 firmware. It was surprising that Samsung was so fast in rolling out another patch.

The patch for this firmware is 26.36MB and it will notified you to download it via the Wifi. But to our surprise this update via Wifi does not really work.

It will allowed you to download the whole file for the 4.0.4 patch update. But once it restart, it will inform you the update of firmware is unsuccessful.
Do not worry, as you can still perform the upgrade through Kies and that is the only method that works for now. So connect your Samsung Galaxy Note to the Kies on your Windows or MAC PC to download the firmware.

It will takes about half an hour to perform the update depending on the speed of the broadband and the server also. Enjoy this patch update for 4.0.4 firmware. Note will only get the Jelly Bean(4.1) update probably in 1st quarter of 2013.

Samsung Galaxy Note ICS 4.0.4 update

Samsung was quietly rolling out the ICS 4.0.4 update. I though only Germany get it but SGN users in Singapore and Malaysia were also able to get the updates OTA.

Hopefully this update will resolve the battery issue on GB and ICS 4.0.3 firmware.

This firmware update(4.0.3 to 4.0.4)is about 100MB in size. I recomment you to use the Wifi to download if you are on a limited mobile data plan.

No Facebook Pics in Contacts on ICS

You find that the Facebook pictures do not appear in your Contact Page on ICS Android Phone. Some of you will find certain of your Facebook contacts have the picture while the rest of the FB contacts has no pictures at all. There is nothing wrong with your Facebook application but a bug in the firmware.

As you know in this ICS, Google want to be in the forefront of social medial. Therefore you will find that Google+ will be in your Contact page with pics and also have status updates. Importing of Facebook pictures only work for a limited amount of contacts. You can not see the FB status updates also. Furthermore, you also see your pics are not clear as they are not at the min size of 256X256 but smaller. So they look pixelise in the contact page.

But most importantly Facebook is also not addressing the problem with their Android App.

There are a few applications in the Play Store which allowed you to sync the FB contacts with picture and status update. But I will just name 2 which are the most popular with the Samsung Galaxy Note, S2 and S3 users.

Apps to syn picture and status update

  • Contact-sync
  • HaxSync

As you see that my contact page has the FB status updates already. I hope my FB contacts and friends do not mind appearing in my blog.

How to calibrate the Galaxy Note S Pen?

Samsung does not provide any software to calibrate the S-Pen. But many users have found out that the S Pen will draw about 3mm offset to the tip after some time of usage. It actually has an auto calibration function to calibrate your S Pen.
There are actually 2 methods to calibrate your S Pen. It work for me on original firmware running on GINGERBREAD.DXKL3 using version 2.3.6 on my Galaxy Note. Some users have report it do not work for them, but I believe sharing this post with all of you will benefit the majority Samsung Galaxy Note users.
1st Method
Move your pen around all the screen, making sure you touch the edges of the screen. I move my S Pen to all edges of the screen(top, bottom, right and left side).Make sure that the S Pen goes in/out of the screen multiple times.
Apparently the auto-calibration does work. It needs to detect the maximum for up/down and left/right movement before it can actually work it’s magic. This also explains why it seems to get better ‘over time’ – you’re near the edges more often and calibration adjusts accordingly.
2nd Method
1. Select “Phone Icon”
2. Enter *#0*#
3. Select “S-Pen Test”
SC20120317-082734

Draw around the small boxes as shown below on your Galaxy Note.

Capture_11
It will show passed and u have completed the S Pen Test.
These 2 methods should work for your Samsung Galaxy Note S Pen calibration. The S Pen is good for games like Draw Something.
