Last Drive Built At Seagate AMK

LastDrive

This is the last drive built at Ang Mo Kio Seagate. Seagate has been one of the major employers in Singapore since the 1980s. They have more than 10000 staffs in the 1990s era.

I have worked with colleagues who are previously retrenched from Seagate. These retrenched staffs have a windfall of more than S$70K as they have work with Seagate for more than 20 years.

Although the last drive has rolled out from Ang Mo Kio, LIFE still goes on. Seagate is still going strong in SIngapore as they have three plants in Woodlands. I am not sure how long they will sustain in Singapore as cost goes up. Every CEOs want to maximize profits for the company and there will be a day when there is no more production facilities here.

Ask any Seagate employees, they will tell you that the company treat them well in terms of salary and compensation. But shifting of jobs to other countries which are lower cost than us is very fast also. Every Seagate employee is prepare for this uncertainty already.
